B.P.D

“Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a serious mental disorder marked by a pattern of ongoing instability in moods, behavior, self-image, and functioning. These experiences often result in impulsive actions and unstable relationships. A person with BPD may experience intense episodes of anger, depression, and anxiety that may last from only a few hours to days.”
That’s an official explanation, how does it feel?
“It sends you into spirals of self-doubt and hatred. It makes you feel like a tangled slinky, forever bumping inelegantly down a flight of stairs. You know something within you is twisted, and even once you’re told what, you’re left wondering why.”
B.P.D does not have to be something you have to crash around in. As tough as it is, as distressing as it feels as disconnected as it feels, there is a viable treatment that is proven to work. D.B.T (Dialectical BehaviourTherapy) is an excellent treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder. There are quite a few self-help books and helpful free resources. On our site, you can access several free resources.
As an organisation we’ve been helping people to process and minimise the effects of B.P.D. Speaking as a therapist, it is a complex, sometimes multi-layered process.
I often work with people that have tried various treatments (including D.B.T) and found that they were only marginally effective in minimising symptoms. Often a whole or “Integrative” approach is needed to get underneath the cause and reason for the distressing effects of Borderline Personality Disorder. Very often there is Complex Trauma or childhood PTSD that created B.P.D. It’s trying to discover what came first or even what caused what.
If you have tried to get to the bottom of your Borderline Personality Disorder, don’t give up. There is hope and it can get better. I have witnessed it many times in my practice. However, it does take commitment and some focus from both your therapist and yourself.
